Northern California Wedding Planner | Lake Almanor Celebration ~ Kelly & Robert

It only took us a few images in Kelly & Robert’s wedding gallery to feel like we were right back amongst the trees in the crisp spring air watching these two amazing people exchange their vows. Kelly & Robert’s intimate wedding served the full Lake Almanor experience for their guests!

Image | Blessings Photos

The vision was always clear for Kelly & Robert, so where did we come into the picture? Logistics is pretty much our middle name, wait..do businesses have a middle name? Anyways - the point is we were focused on creating a timeline that encompassed all of the wedding events at both Lake Almanor Country Club and Plumas Pines as well as the shuttle details across the lake (by boat) leading to the sparkler entrance and much more.

Bringing vendors in from Chico, Redding and the surrounding areas to deliver an exceptional service for our clients involves factoring in travel, load-in logistics, layout details, sound checks, and the overall flow of all formalities. This is what we live for!

Incredibly thankful to have been a part of such an epic celebration, and grateful to work alongside all of the professional wedding vendors who contributed to the event:

Northern California Wedding Planner | Irongate Garden Inn - Chico, CA ~ Diana & Marcus

Can you say swoon?! Wow Dianna was absolutely stunning and we still can’t get over all of the beautiful floral elements by Little Red Hen Floral & More that took this fall wedding to the next level. Beyond the beautiful decor, there is a much deeper connection to this wedding story as Diana & Marcus were forced to make many changes in their lives and wedding plans due to the Campfire. Life threw obstacles in their way, yet seeing them soak it all in with their friends and family was incredibly rewarding. Enjoy these highlights from Silver Sands Photography by Tracy.

Northern California Wedding Planner | Winter Wedding at Manzanita Place ~ Veronica & Manny

When we received an email late last year from one of our brides after her wedding letting us know that her sister was also getting married soon, we were just over the moon for the opportunity to help this amazing family celebrate another beautiful wedding. You see Monica was the big sister who had just celebrated her big day, and felt it was important that her sister could get ready without any stress the day of her wedding. What a nice big sister!

Northern California Wedding Planner | Butte Creek Canyon ~ Mary & Ben

These foggy mornings are so cozy, but we can warm right up thinking back to our weddings over the summer.  We're sharing the highlights from Mary & Ben's wedding day and we hope you enjoy!

When we saw the first sneak peek from their engagement session with Bloom Portraiture, we were hooked.  Look at this location, and those two lovebirds - right out of a story book.

mary-and-ben_bloom-portraiture

Mary and Ben chose the iconic Hotel Diamond for getting ready before their wedding ceremony, and it was the day to tie the knot.  Seeing these florals by North Bloom delivered to the bride was pretty special, as the colors and textures were exactly what was on our inspiration board.  Just flawless.  Mary had her sisters and best friend by her side for hair and make-up, such a close knit group of beautiful ladies!

The ceremony was held at St. John's Baptist Church downtown Chico, and we loved how Mary and Ben emphasized their faith within their vows.  They were both emotional during their vows and it was so sweet.

After the ceremony the guests were shuttled up to Ben's family home in Butte Creek Canyon, it was warming up on that August day so nice cold beverages were in order.  Ben's family put so much love into prepping their property for the wedding and it all paid off, as it was truly magical.

We were grateful for the opportunity to work with Mary and Ben to execute their vision from a blank canvas, and to be able to help them share the Chico experience with all of their guests!

A big thanks to all of the event partners who worked together to bring Mary & Ben's beautiful wedding day together and to Bloom Portraiture for capturing all of these perfect shots!

Northern California Wedding Planner | Let's Talk About Being Engaged In 2018!

Did you just get engaged over the holidays?

If so, which I am guessing that is why you've decided to click this blog post, congratulations! Being recently engaged myself, I understand the stress that comes with planning a wedding. Yes, I still feel it even though I'm a wedding planner!

Today on the blog, we're going to be sharing some of our top New Years resolutions for those of you who are engaged! Our main advice: ENJOY every moment; it's such a special time in your life!

Engaged; having formally agreed to marry.
synonyms: betrothed, promised in marriage, pledged in marriage;

1. Keep A Positive Attitude
Of all people, I know what it's like to have to make several decisions at once, but it's for your special day so you shouldn't take it as a negative thing! Remember that sometimes less is more! Are you a couple who wants to go above and beyond with florals? Or how about the food? Staying in a positive mindset will help you make these hard decisions. But of course, we're here to lead you through them.

2. Take Care Of Yourself
This is really important, but i'm sure you've seen this tip on all of the blogs that you've been to such as The Knot, Ruffled Blog, etc. But this is coming from me, Delphine, the one who is going to MAKE your special day happen. Since I am a wedding planner, and not a personal nutritionist... my biggest advice is to remember that your gut health will ultimately change, not only your appearance, but also your mental health! This goes hand in hand with my last tip. Mental health turns into positivity, which turns into a more confident you on your wedding day.

3. Choose The Perfect Date
This is a biggie. I'm sure that you know that there are holidays pretty much every single month out of the year. So keep in mind that people make plans on 4 day weekends, especially during the spring and summer months. Obviously if a date is calling your name, then go for it. But remember that aunt Kathy may not be able to make it on that particular weekend due to a hot dog eating contest... or something? Whichever date you choose with your significant other, make sure you're both happy with it!

4. Stay Within Your Budget
This is another big tip I have for you. Remember when you and your significant other were talking about a budget for your future wedding even before you were engaged? Yeah, I've been there too... and now I officially have to back off on a lot of my choices! So learn from me and look at your budget, decide what the most important aspect of your wedding is, and start asking for quotes!

5. Enjoy Each Other
This may seem like a given, but a lot of couples get so wrapped up in the planning process that they forget they're even getting married! Take a step back, and ask your significant other their input. Take them to appointments! Even if they seem like they don't care, they really do. Even if it's the color scheme of your wedding!

Happy Planning, and Happy NEW YEAR!

XO,

Northern California Wedding Planner | Where to Start

When couples reach out to us, often they are primarily wanting to get an idea of where to start after getting engaged.  Hey it's an exciting, overwhelming and somewhat confusing time, totally get it!

where-to-start_The-530-Bride

We love getting to start the process with couples from the beginning because we are able to first understand what the couple's priorities are for their wedding experience.  We take that information and build an outline of vendors who we feel would be not only a good match based on style and budget, but also someone who would vibe well with the couple.  Building relationships is important to us, as planning your wedding is personal so having a connection really makes a difference.

Once we have established a budget, style and must-haves list, we begin the venue and event partner selection process.  Then we review each venue's amenities such as tables & chairs being included, having an onsite getting ready area for bride and groom, kitchen/staging areas etc.  It is easy to get attached to the look/style of the venue, but we encourage couples to see a side-by-side comparison break down of at least three venues.

The top three venues will then get a mock-up budget breakdown and design concept for the couple to choose from.  You can read more on getting started with selecting your venue & vendors here

Northern California Wedding Planner | Summer 2017 Bridal Shows

We're about half way through our wedding season this year, and we are taking a pause to work on some really fun events coming up! We wanted to share some of our top tips for attending a bridal show!  Check out our event calendar for some of the upcoming bridal shows.

We had a blast at the Chico Bridal Show in January, 2017!

We had a blast at the Chico Bridal Show in January, 2017!

Bring your appetite!
Seriously you will be well fed with all of the delicious samples by many of the top caterers and bakers.

Standout
These shows are just for you, the couple so stand out! It can get pretty crowded at our booths so it is great when we can easily pin point who the couple is and know who we can turn our attention to next.  Lot's of mothers, sisters and friends also attend on behalf of couples if they aren't able to attend and that is fine too!

Start with a mission
Have in mind which services you are looking for and ask your wedding planner for tips on who to visit at the show.  If you don't have a planner yet stop by and ask away!

Bring a bag or closable folder
You will want to have a bag or closable folder for all of the handy info you will be picking up from the booths.  Bonus points if you bring a smaller bag to slip the cards in of the businesses that stand out to you the most so that you don't have to dig through later.

Create pre-addressed mailing labels
Chances are you will visit several booths that have a prize or drawing in addition to the sign up lists for various promotions.  Save yourself the time and the hand cramp by bringing pre-addressed labels that you can stick right onto the sign-up list. The labels should include your name, preferred contact (phone or email) and your wedding date if you have selected one.

Entourages are welcome!
Feel free to bring your fiance, wedding party, mom or any others to the show to share in the experience. Bonus points for dressing up, standing out and having fun!

Ask Questions
Feel free to ask questions and talk to exhibitors, just keep in mind that with crowds it can be difficult for us to talk long but we love getting to talk to so many couples! You can always grab a card and shoot us an email with additional questions as well as schedule a complimentary consultation.

Attend Open Houses
Many of the exhibitors will host open houses, and these are a great way to talk in more detail and to take advantage of special bridal show pricing when you book.

Northern California Wedding Planner | That Ring Makes You Look...Engaged!

We made it! It's 2017 now that we have packed up the ornaments, put away the New Years Eve party hats it's time for a whole other reason to celebrate...engagement season! Literally our newsfeed is filled with the sparkly goodness, and perfect ring selfies and it will never get old to us.  Every story is unique, maybe the proposal didn't happen in a hot air balloon or even on the top of the mountain captured by a stealthy photographer but that's okay because obviously the romantic and casual proposal melted your heart so much so that you said yes!

Not that we've counted but there are probably several thousand articles out there telling you what you should do the minute you get engaged.  We are willing to bet you've already told those closest to you and likely shared that beautiful announcement to the social media masses so you can check that one off of your list!

Next, let's just focus on the easy stuff before we get ahead of ourselves.

  • Think about who you want at your wedding and what location feels right. If you love your hometown or the city you met in back in college add it to the list.  Does your family have a property that you could reasonably host a large event?
  • What are your must-haves?
  • Now that the wheels are turning what's a ball park budget that you both feel comfortable with?
  • Talk to a wedding planner, no talk to several wedding planners if you'd like until you have been able to ask all of the reasonable questions that you need to until you feel that you have a good idea of what you want and who can help make that happen for you.  Wedding vendors are people first, and not all people jive so make sure to give yourself an opportunity to have a phone call, a video call or an in person meeting if possible.

Now, we figured you might need to learn the lingo of your fellow engaged community:

We couldn't help ourselves..

We couldn't help ourselves..

Northern California Wedding Planner | Inspiration Overload

Pinterest, Instagram, so many ideas and only one wedding to plan!

Clink those champagne glasses and share that ring selfie! We know that being newly engaged is a whirlwind of emotions and inspiration, and it is so easy to get lost in the shuffle of all of the sites and google searches.  Once you start to look for local ideas or perhaps even start looking into booking vendors you are going to get some initial questions ( what is your wedding date, approximate guest count, budget and if you have a wedding theme/color palette.)

With all of these questions coming at you, just how do you choose a wedding theme? Should you choose a wedding venue before or after deciding on a theme? These are important, let's dive in!

Keep in mind that design themes can vary. For example "rustic", or "vintage" can look very different depending on who you ask.  Rustic can be lots of exposed textures like wood and metals which can be perceived as industrial inspired as well.  Visually, its important to find pieces or ideas that you like and to jot down notes about what you specifically like. A month from now you might ask yourself why you pinned something, so try to be specific in the notes section when creating new pins to a board.

We will always recommend setting a budget and come up with a realistic guest count BEFORE you book your wedding venue.  You don't want to go down the road of being venue rich and wedding poor (just made that up.) Seriously if you hypothetically fall in love with an $8500 venue and your budget was supposed to be 10K; now what?

Once you have set a budget, venue research and design ideas should be next.  Pick one to two venues that represent that theme or atmosphere to you. Compare the two venues side by side and decide on your must-haves!

Less is more so try to focus first on the basics like seating, food, beverage and music.  Attend a local wedding expo to see firsthand what some of the options are, then book some initial consultations with vendors that you are interested in.  These consultations or even phone calls with vendors will help you get a sense of what is available in your area, and who you vibe with! Budget is important, but so is having a connection with your potential team of vendors.

Once you have your primary vendors booked, don't be afraid to ask them for recommendations or look through some of their albums from previous weddings and events to see if any ideas stand out to you.  You don't have to reinvent the wheel, just add your personal touch through the details.

Seating charts, escort card tables, or personalized wedding favors can really tell a story.  While creating a seating chart seems like a hassle, it can really make the transition from cocktail hour to reception smooth because guests don't have to scramble to find a table that seats their whole party and it can often ensure that your immediate family have a seat within a good view from your table.

Share your Pinterest board with your wedding planner or vendor team to give them an idea of what inspires you, they may have some recommendations or ideas on how to incorporate those details into your overall design.

Follow us on Pinterest to check out some of our inspiration boards!

Making it Official | Marriage License FAQ's

The run down on applying for a marriage license .. tips and frequently asked questions

The marriage license is what seals the deal folks! All of this time spent thinking about your timeline, photos, flowers and the buffet.. don't forget to schedule a time to go to your county clerk's office together and sign on the dotted line!

A snapshot of an application for a marriage license, courtesy of Butte County Clerk Recorders Office

A snapshot of an application for a marriage license, courtesy of Butte County Clerk Recorders Office

Here are some questions that we get often:

  • We are getting married in another county, do we apply in the county we live in or the county we are getting married in?  You will apply for the license in the county you live in, and the ceremony can be performed anywhere in California.

  • Can we apply online? No, both of you will need to be present

  • What forms of ID are required?
Typically, you will just need a photo ID such as your drivers license, passport or military ID

  • Is there a waiting period? No waiting period; the license may be used upon issuance

  • What happens if we forget our license on our wedding day? Hopefully we can send a runner to go get it, but if it is truly not available for the ceremony than you can choose to proceed as a "commitment ceremony" and the officiant will not be able to state that you are husband and wife.  Then most likely you would need to make an appointment with your officiant to sign the license..Unfortunately that document cannot be backdated. It has to be signed on the date is presented. (But hey, that's why you hired a wedding coordinator and you will have us to nag you about bringing that license with you!)

  • What if we make a mistake when we are signing our license after the ceremony? Speaking from experience (our officiant signed on the wrong line..fun times) You will have to have an addendum issued by the clerks office.  This just means instead of a one page marriage license yours will be two pages.

Have more questions? Make sure to visit your local county clerk recorder's website for specific instructions and feel free to leave us a comment or shoot an email to info@the530bride.com

The one thing that couples forget when planning their wedding day

All good things (even epic wedding days) come to an end.. what is the game plan when the DJ plays the last song and everyone is heading to the after party?

Who cleans up?
Who is taking your left over food, cake, gifts etc?
Who packs up all of your belongings?
Who will return all of your rentals (cake stand, glass centerpieces, easels etc) on the next business day?

The point is that while planning your wedding it is easy to only focus on what it will take to get you down the aisle and to have a seriously good time - We totally get that ;)  As a wedding planner we hate to hear about the couples who had to clean up their own wedding because no one planned out that aspect ahead of time.  Make sure to consider the clean up when selecting your venue, rental companies and all service packages.

We want the end of the night to be as smooth and stress free as the day itself and when planned accordingly, it totally can be!  Oh and we really don't want your mom, aunt, best friend, or brother to be hauling your stuff to the car at midnight.  That's why you want to hire a wedding planner!

Your wedding planner will be responsible for thoroughly reviewing all contracts/invoices with vendors so that we are 100% aware of what needs to be returned to vendors after the wedding and when it needs to be back.  Keep in mind that for some rentals you have a security deposit so if the cake stand needs to be returned by tuesday (clean and free of any cake/food residue) then we need to ensure it has been washed and that it will be returned so that you receive your deposit back.

Make sure to discuss clean up with your venue to make sure that you understand what condition the venue needs to be in by the end of the night or next morning.  Is someone responsible for taking the garbage to the dumpster, sweeping the floor, stacking chairs etc? These are not details that you want to forget and they need to be addressed within your timeline and wedding agreements with all respective vendors.

Have questions about what a wedding planner does? What is the difference between full service planning and Event Management or "Day of" services? Check out our Services page to find out more.

There is something about these two and their quiet confidence that puts those around them at ease.  When it came to their wedding day, there was no big crazy entrance, no garter or bouquet toss; it was about spending time with their guests and having a good time! They chose a great venue for doing just that, Shaffer Ranch was a relaxed setting that offered a beautiful backdrop for their day.
